Steelhead Fishing Trips

Idaho’s Clearwater River system is home to Idaho’s famous B-run steelhead. With an average weight of 12-14 pounds and an 18-20 pound fish not uncommon. The Dworshak National Fish Hatchery is the largest steelhead hatchery in the world and is located in Orofino, Idaho. Here at Riverside Guide Service & Tackle Shop we follow these fish from the confluence of the Snake River up the Clearwater 38 miles to the  city of Orofino bridge.

Starting as early as July, fishing begins as the A-run steelhead enter into the cool clean water of the lower Clearwater River. Fly fishing produces good results during the summer and fall months with either Spey or one-handed type top water presentations. Nymphing can be excellent and we have fly fishing guides on staff to accommodate your preference. Although the spunky A-run fish in the 5-10 lb. range are prevalent this time of year, B-run fish are not uncommon.

Catch and keep season begins October 15th through April 30th• Anglers come from all over the country and outside the U.S. to experience the thrill of fishing for these amazing andronomous fish.

A guided fishing trip with Riverside Guide Service is a great way to get on the river in a quiet, drift boat setting. Our guides are friendly, knowledgeable and love to see you catch fish.

Steelhead Mania is fishing to the eXtreme, meaning that Riverside Guide Service has an all-star line up of fishing guides. The guides are hand picked because of their unique talent and personality while using various methods when needed to catch finicky fish. We’re proud of our ability to adjust to any situation. Check out the guide bio on Meet Your Guide and read the testimonials of our satisfied return clients.

Your trip includes:

The use of quality fishing gear, fly rod(s) and hand tied flies or tackle and bait (depending on your choice of fishing), and a guarantee of 8 hours of fishing.

What you need to bring:

A valid Idaho fishing license & steelhead or salmon tag. You can order it on-line at Idaho Fish and Game – On line Licenses and Tags http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/licenses/ or purchase it at any store in Idaho where fishing licenses are sold.

Bring layered clothing and rain gear; even though the drift boats are heated it can become chilly on the river.

Bring your camera. We try to have a camera on every boat however, it is good to have your own along also to capture that special moment.

Oh yes, and don’t forget your smile.
